Piccadilly

Mid-autumn in the Adelaide Hills, South Australia, and the vines are on show with brilliant golden yellow highlighting the rolling contours of the relief.

This place is only a short car trip from my home in Adelaide. The Adelaide Hills is one of Australia's special locales and possibly the best kept secret of this country. It was one of the first regions settled by Europeans in South Australia, with German Lutherans establishing many villages and pursuits including wine making for which the region is now renowned. It is one of Australia's oldest wine regions, with the first vines planted in 1839.

Piccadilly is a place I have visited countless times.  This day I had simply gone for a drive, heading for my favourite nooks and potential vantages from which to create panoramic prints.  The light and time of year happened to be perfect so that the colours in the vines appeared to be somehow illuminated from within.  The old building in the scene is the icing on the cake to this mellow setting.

I feel fortunate to be living near such an artistically stimulating region.
